Market Report

28-04-2015

The market seems to be coming to us this week with a reasonable supply of Flathead, Blue eye, Hapuka, Rockling made has it onto the Bulk Buys and a little bit of Trumpeter all available and fairly good value. The promised Giant Grouper (pictured) has arrived this morning and is ready to go! This tasty native has up until now been a protected species hence not been available to the commercial market, give it a crack you will not regret it! Fresh jumbo Clarence River prawns will be available on Thursday and these bad boys tend not to hang about so pre orders are advised. As mentioned Rockling is on the Bulk Buys this week and is great value, Flathead carries on its super affordable run with pricing quite low and the quality incredible. South Australian Snapper fishermen are struggling with unusual tidal conditions at the moment which is affecting their ability to reel in the large sizes we love. Plate sized and medium (3-4kg) Snappers caught in NZ and Victorian waters are in good supply but will be under pressure unless we see better catches in SA. Good local catches of King George Whiting, Garfish (pictured) and Rock flathead continue and we had a welcome surprise of these beautiful Spanish Mackerel today. With heavy rainfall continuing in NSW Clamms does not expect to see any Rock oysters for a little while, water quality will need to improve before we see any Rocks cleared for market.
