Market Report

From the heat wave of last week suffered in the southern states of Australia to the earthquakes and savage winds in New Zealand the seafood wholesalers of Australia have had a smorgasbord of excuses to choose from!

This weeks Bulk Buys are attached and feature Rockling, Ocean Trout and Barramundi from Far North Queensland. Flathead has taken a huge price tumble this week it's bloody everywhere so stock up while its cheap. Sashimi grade Yellowfin Tuna pricing has softened from the high's of the last two weeks as has large Snapper. Live West Australian Marron will come up a little in price (expect $1-$2kg) from next week due to growing demand.

As summer nears the end for another year we can expect the weather to start improving as autumn is traditionally the best time of the year for variety, quality and price. Cross your fingers for good catches of just about everything right through February and March. We have been seeing glimpses of autumn catches with the Gurnard and Calamari pictured today as well as a number of other species, although still being summer the volumes aren't strong enough to affect prices yet.
